My Musings

OHMYGODDDD. Just read that summary and tell me you don't want to read this book. I had been wanting to read this book for a loooong time. But the series isn't complete yet so I was reluctant to start it, until one day my resolve crumpled and well here I am, fangirling about this book.

Words inspire me. They fill a void in me and some words are so precious that I wish I could keep them in my heart or get them inked on my forehead. But since I can't do either I thought I would start with this new 'section' on my blog, a space to share quotes that are meaningful to me. The words to live by. (cheeeeeeese) And also because I have been inspired by bloggers such as Chiara, who also posts quotes every Sunday in her meme Simply Sunday.

I want to start this meme (I think that's what this is called) with a quote by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who I think said this in her TED talk, "We should all be feminists".

Amour Amour by Krista & Becca Ritchie

Title: Amour Amour
Author: Krista & Becca Ritchie
Published: December 12th, 2014.

Love is a circus. "Every day,” he says lowly, “I hold a person’s life in my hands. The circus is based one-hundred percent off trust. I give it all to someone, and they give it all to me.” The best aerial technique won’t land 21-year-old Thora James her dream role in Amour—a sexy new acrobatic show on the Vegas strip. Thora knows she’s out of her element the second she meets Amour’s leading performer. Confident, charming and devilishly captivating, 26-year-old Nikolai Kotova lives up to his nickname as the “God of Russia.” When Thora unknowingly walks into the crosshairs of Nikolai’s after-show, her audition process begins way too soon. Unprofessional. That’s what Nik calls their “non-existent” relationship. It’s not like Thora can avoid him. For one, they may be partners in the future—acrobatic partners, that is. But getting closer to Nik means diving deeper into sin city and into his dizzying world. Thora wants to perform with him, but when someone like Nikolai attracts the spotlight wherever he goes—Thora fears that she’s destined to be just background to his spellbinding show.

My Musings

I have to say I very much enjoyed reading this book. After reading this summary, I thought I would find a cliche story where the woman meets a guy, something happens with him then she realizes she is going to have to work with him and then the drama starts...But I was mistaken and I am so glad that this was the case. One of the things I liked most about the story was how things didn't go well most of the time and that made me relate to the story more and simpathize with Thora -and to actually root for her-.

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Title: Ugly Love
Author: Colleen Hoover
Published: August 5th, 2014 by Atria Books.

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her. Never ask about the past. Don’t expect a future. They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all. Hearts get infiltrated. Promises get broken. Rules get shattered. Love gets ugly.

My Musings

I am fascinated by the fact that two books from the same genre can be so different at the same time. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it’s just that I read two books that classify as New Adult and I really enjoyed both of them even though they were quite different. I’m talking about Amour Amour and Ugly Love. This time I am going to share my thoughts on the latter, book of the American writer, Colleen Hoover.

Visiting The Book Fair #Filbo2015

Hellooooooooo. Today I wanted to create something different and thought the perfect opportunity to do so was the visit I did to the book fair in my city, aka Bogotá. The Book Fair is more known as #Filbo2015
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/57/High_view_of_corferias.jpg
Corferias is the place where the Fair is hosted.

I was standing under the arch waiting to get my tickets, since I earned them in a contest on Twitter organized by Editorial Océano. I got them and then I waited for my friend, Felipe so that we could go in together.

Once there, we got to the first 'tent' or block and I kept saying: 'I hope there are books in English, please please' and then this happened:

Books I'll Probably Never Read

This is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

I have decided to participate on this even though it is difficult for me to decide on books that I won't read. I don't actively keep a list of them so let's see if I can even complete a list of ten.

Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren

Title: Beautiful Player
Author: Christina Lauren
Published: October 29th, 2013 by Gallery Books.

A bombshell bookworm. A chronic Casanova. And a lesson in chemistry too scandalous for school. When Hanna Bergstrom receives a lecture from her overprotective brother about neglecting her social life and burying herself in grad school, she’s determined to tackle his implied assignment: get out, make friends, start dating. And who better to turn her into the sultry siren every man wants than her brother’s gorgeous best friend, Will Sumner, venture capitalist and unapologetic playboy? Will takes risks for a living, but he’s skeptical about this challenge of Hanna’s…until the wild night his innocently seductive pupil tempts him into bed- and teaches him a thing or two about being with a woman he can’t forget. Now that Hanna’s discovered the power of her own sex appeal, it’s up to Will to prove he’s the only man she’ll ever need.

My Musings

After feeling like I had read quite a lot of YA fantasy, I wanted to go for something else. I'm kind of picky when it comes about New Adult or Contemporary Romance, so I started going through my friends' lists of books and I stumbled upon this one and saw that a few of them had given it five stars, so I knew I had to read it.
