Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Title: Shiver
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Published: August 1st, 2009 by Scholastic Press.

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human… until the cold makes him shift back again. Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It's her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human—or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

My Musings

Oh man. It's so dificult for me to review this book. I wanted to love it so much. Because Maggie Stiefvater wrote The Raven Boys and that saga is one of my favorites now! So I had high expectations. And I have to admit they weren't really met. Let me tell you why.

It took me six days to read it! The outrage, no but honestly if a book is really good it takes me two days or maybe three to read it. But the thing with this book is, I didn't feel like there was a lot going on. There is not much of a plot, at least in this book, I don't know if it gets better or what but most of the book is about Sam and Grace living together. (How can a 17 year old girl live with her boyfriend if she lives with her parents, you ask? We'll get back to that.)

This gave me such Twilight feels sometimes, it seems as if Grace doesn't have a survival instict, she was being attacked by freaking wolves but she did nothing but stare at "her wolf". Same as Bella Swan with the vampires. And they are both sickly obsessed with either werewolves or vampires? Grace's obsession was odd, I'm not gonna lie.

The romance between Sam and Grace was cute if you overlooked the 'songs' he wrote for her. Such poor lyrics, but other than that his personality was likeable, for example whenever he called her angel I sighed a little bit, even though that term of endearment made him seem older. And, he gave me Edward Cullen feels. He is an eighteen year old boy, but he was always trying to be 'careful' with her in terms of how physical they became? That just doesn't seem believable, you know? I did enjoy the mix of Grace and Sam's personalities because she was always so practical and rather closed off while he was very good at reading people and not afraid to show his emotions, I think they made a nice couple.

But what really bothered me was the relationship between Grace and her parents. They are now part of the Top Ten of Shittiest Parents in YA. Could they have cared any less about their daughter? You can tell they just weren't ready to have a child. It is hard for me to understand this because my parents are the opposite of hers and maybe absent parents were necessary in order to make the relationship between Grace and Sam work?

Oh! I loved the character of Isabel. She came off as mean but you could tell she really cared about her brother, she is also determined and she ended up caring for Sam and Grace. I felt like I could relate to her a bit, because I tend to come off as apathetic but I do care, I just don't like to show it.

You HAVE to tell me what you think of this book if you have read it! If not, I hope you read it so that you can form your own opinion on it. These are mine, and I can't wait to see if you guys agree or disagree with me. I gave it 3 stars in Goodreads. Until next time!

Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater

(Reseña en Español)

Title: Blue Lily Lily Blue
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Published: October 21st, 2014 by Scholastic Press.
There is danger in dreaming. But there is even more danger in waking up. Blue Sargent has found things. For the first time in her life, she has friends she can trust, a group to which she can belong. The Raven Boys have taken her in as one of their own. Their problems have become hers, and her problems have become theirs. The trick with found things though, is how easily they can be lost. Friends can betray. Mothers can disappear. Visions can mislead. Certainties can unravel.

My Musings

I think this is my favorite book of this saga so far. There is so much going on, just like in the other books but this time I felt like the pieces of a puzzle slowly fitting together and making the whole picture a whole.

The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater

(Reseña en Español)

Title: The Dream Thieves
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Published: September 17th, 2013 by Scholastic Press.

Now that the ley lines around Cabeswater have been woken, nothing for Ronan, Gansey, Blue, and Adam will be the same. Ronan, for one, is falling more and more deeply into his dreams, and his dreams are intruding more and more into waking life. Meanwhile, some very sinister people are looking for some of the same pieces of the Cabeswater puzzle that Gansey is after...

My Musings

I must admit it took me a while to really get into it. Like maybe there was soo much going on. The Gray Man, Declan, Kavinsky, Ronan, Adam, Blue, Gansey, sometimes I wanted to scream. And for a good portion of the book you're just not hooked in it. You know how you can't stop reading a book? Well that wasn't the case here, at least for the first half of it.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

(Reseña en Español)

Title: The Raven Boys

Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Published: September 18th, 2012 by Scholastic Press.

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive. Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her. His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble. But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little. For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

My Musings

I've caved in and started this saga. Usually, I try to stay as far away as I can from series that aren't finished yet. But I've heard so much about these books I just couldn't help myself. So today I am talking about the book I read this week, The Raven Boys, by Maggie Stiefvater.

Pero ahora, mientras su vida se ve atrapada en un extraño y siniestro mundo de The Raven Boys (Los Chicos Cuervo), ella ya no está tan segura.

Mi Opinión

He caído y empezado esta saga.
